Main Structure of Peru’s Chancay Tunnel Completed
Source: Date:2024年10月25日

On October 9th local time, with the final section of lining concrete poured, the main structure of the Chancay Tunnel, a critical project of the Chancay Port, was completed. The tunnel was constructed by the Third Engineering Company of China Railway No.10 Engineering Group.

The Chancay Tunnel project is a key component of the China-Peru “Belt and Road” cooperation, connecting the mountains and the coastline. It links the auxiliary construction zone and the terminal operation area of the port. The tunnel is 1,839 meters long, with a shallow-buried section of 1,168 meters, accounting for 64.3% of the total length. More than 400 meters of the tunnel have a burial depth of 6 to 9 meters, passing through a sand and gravel sediment layer. The tunnel runs parallel to the street above, with a surface settlement requirement of less than 1 cm, making the construction highly challenging.

To address these difficulties, the project team maintained a step distance of more than 30 meters between the upper and lower levels, facilitating mechanized construction. This reduced interference from other procedures on the tunnel face, improved excavation efficiency, and effectively controlled surface settlement and tunnel deformation.

Once completed, the Chancay Tunnel will help position Chancay Port as a key hub port in South America and one of the most influential logistics centers along the Pacific coast. It will play a significant role in promoting regional trade and strengthening trade cooperation between China and Latin America.
